Citizens across Myanmar say fear, surveillance, and intimidation drove them to vote in the regime’s poll, helping secure a mandate for the military to entrench its rule.
Myanmar began a second round of voting Sunday in its first general election since the military takeover five years ago.
Voting in 100 townships saw sparse participation, heavy security, alleged advance-vote irregularities and resistance attacks as the junta pressed on with its staged poll.
